ybd 123 - Accelerated Math is Fun

Accelerated Math has been used in many Math classes in our school district.  Teachers who have used this program have many positive feedback about it.  I will share how one teacher has used this program in her class.  There is always a continuous action in her Math class. Everyday is different but the routines set up help students work efficiently and independently.  There is more time for student practice.  The teacher has more time planning, teaching, and meeting with students.  First, she instructs students using the existing curriculum and the instructional resources from the software. Students are given their assignments on paper or online, tailored to the next objective they are ready to practice.  Students working on paper can score their own work using the AccelScan scanner or Renasissance Responder.

Students receive immediate feedback. The teacher reviews instantly generated reports to inform and guide instruction, then meet with individuals or small groups to review objectives. TOPS (The Opportunity to Praise Students) report shows where students' strengths and weaknesses are.  Parents can see student's performance through this TOPS report.  After a period of time the teacher gives certificates to students showing the number of objectives mastered. This helps motivate students to learn more.
Accelerated Math creates individualized practice assignments at each student's level, allowing teachers to keep every student motivated and challenged.  The teacher first makes students get the diagnostic test from Star Math to identify student's Math level.  With student's level, a corresponding library of objectives is assigned.  The Math levels of a 6th grade student may range from Level 2 to 8.  Students can progress and move from one level to another depending on the performance.
